Lets talk about LBX Achilles. LBX = Little Battlers Experience. a model kit which is similar to HG Gundam kits (without inner frame). LBX do have "MG" kits which are called 'Hyper function' kits. Kits which comes with inner frame just like Gundam MG Kits. We will touch on this during the next post.
Building of this kit is rather simple and straight forward. No side cutters required if you just wants a fast build. Suitable for kids as no sharp tools are required.
Its my common practice or habit to fast build the kits to have a good look at the kit's details and only put on certain decals (I do not like foil stickers) therefore after deciding what to do with the kits, I will discard them or replace with water slides, dry transfer or paint them. as I started model kits way back when I was a small kid, without air-brush or even spray can, I used to manually brush paint them. Even up till now when I could afford an air-brush, I still tend to brush paint my kits.
For this kit I have a color scheme and things I wanted to try out. 1st off, is to test if what a lot of people in the web has mentioned ( lacquer paint are not meant to be painted or hard to brush paint) as it dries too quickly and brush strokes would be visible. A lot of explanation and solutions has been provided that adding retarder or leveling thinner will help in leveling the paint to prevent brush strokes before they dry. Therefore I took this kit as a guinea pig to test out. Lets take a look at the fully hand painted kit.
Apologise for the crappy background. Took the pictures before I got a better backdrop. As shown in the pictures, it wasn't so hard to brush paint with lacquers paint and I had a blast painting them especially after what I can achieve. I used Mr Color lacquer paint for the white portion and also Mr Metallic Stainless and Iron. This type of lacquer paint will produce a matt gray or black look. But do not worry, just carry on brushing the kit to make them even just make sure you do not have paint build up on certain areas which will make the paint job look uneven. After I was sure that the paints are dry, as we are staying in SGP and weather can be quite humid but thanks to that we do not have to worry about paint frosting or changing effects like colder countries. Therefore the paints dry up relatively fast. After which I took a used unwanted cloth to start buffering the Mr Metallic Color stainless and Iron. And you can look at them shine. This paint will shine depending on how much u buffer them. Look at the Mohawk on Achilles head and compare with his armor, they are the same paint and was painted together. I jus buffered lesser on the flat side but abit more on the edges to give it a weathered iron look. Now for some pics after I have gotten myself a better looking backdrop.
